You are invited to the Chrysalis Luncheon, The Haven’s annual celebration of Recovery with Respect.

Each year, The Haven honors an individual or organization who helps to make our mission possible. The 2024 Chrysalis Luncheon Honoree will be Judge Victoria Steele who established The Haven’s Native Ways Program.

The event takes place on Tuesday, March 5 from 11am-1pm at Tohono Chul (7366 N Paseo Del Norte, Tucson, AZ 85704).

Judge Victoria Steele

Judge Victoria Steele, a distinguished individual of Seneca/Mingo and German heritage, embodies a lifelong commitment to social justice and healing. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, she made Tucson her home in 1978. Armed with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Counseling, specializing in substance abuse, domestic violence, and multicultural counseling, Judge Steele has dedicated her career to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

Early in her career, Judge Steele played a pivotal role in establishing the Native Ways program at the Haven, a groundbreaking substance-use treatment initiative tailored for Indigenous women. This experience laid the foundation for her advocacy for underrepresented communities.

In 2012, Judge Steele entered the realm of politics, securing her first election as a State Representative and later ascending to the position of State Senator. As a member of the Senate Minority Caucus Leadership Team and the National Caucus of Native American State Legislators, she left an indelible mark on Arizona’s legislative landscape. Her efforts were instrumental in the passage of crucial laws addressing Mental Health, Domestic Violence Orders of Protection, Sexual Assault, and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons crisis.

In 2022, Judge Steele transitioned to a new chapter in her journey for social justice, earning the title of Justice of the Peace for Pima County’s Precinct One. Her election to this esteemed position underscores her unwavering commitment to upholding justice and fostering healing within her community.

Beyond the courtroom, Judge Steele finds joy in the warmth of her family, including her cherished son Nicholas, her loyal canine companion Chelsea, and her supportive parents. While her schedule may be demanding, she makes time for personal passions, indulging in the soothing sounds of jazz, immersing herself in mystery novels, and rejuvenating through long walks. In the midst of her demanding professional responsibilities, Judge Victoria Steele remains a beacon of compassion, integrity, and dedication to creating a more just and equitable society.
