On August 8, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Haven’s Native Ways Program. This milestone brought together alumnae, staff, longtime contractors, community partners, and supporters to honor two decades of Native and Indigenous healing and resilience.
The celebration was a beautiful reflection of what Native Ways means to the women and community it serves. There were tears, laughter, memories, and powerful messages of hope and healing.
The event began with an opening blessing by Tony Redhouse, followed by a craft activity led by Ricky Triana. Native Ways alumnae shared how the program helped transform their lives, and The Haven’s Strong Women Drum Group performed a special song selected for the occasion.
We were honored to welcome several elected officials and community leaders. State Senator Sally Ann Gonzales and Justice of Peace and founder of the Native Ways Program Victoria Steele offered brief remarks. Carlene Yellowhair, Tribal President of the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe, and Pima County Attorney Laura Conover also attended. Their presence and the words shared throughout the celebration made one thing very clear: the Native Ways Program is deeply needed and deeply loved by our community.
Native Ways has been the heartbeat of The Haven for two decades, and countless staff members and long-time contractors have poured their hearts and souls into making this program what it is today. We remain committed to continue helping generations of women heal through their culture and traditions.
