Stories about The Haven
To commemorate The Haven’s impact and legacy, we are collecting stories from alumnae, employees, community partners, and supporters who have been part of The Haven’s journey.
These stories are powerful reminders of why our work matters. They reflect the courage and strength of women who have endured severe trauma and the metamorphosis that they experience when they come to The Haven. From mothers reunited with their children to women who found their voice and purpose again, each story is a testament to hope, healing, and resilience.
As we look back on our history, we also look forward with renewed commitment. These stories inspire us to keep going because every story of healing represents a life saved.
“The biggest thing I got from The Haven was hope: hope that life could be better”
“Before I was very defiant, but at the Haven I felt safe. I was there for eight months and did not want to leave.”
“I learned I am strong enough to handle the stress in my life without using alcohol or drugs.”
“Today I own my own business as a life coach, helping woman with trauma find their way. Today I am a woman of integrity and joy.”
“The Haven gave me a foundation to live, to find out who I am and what I’m capable of.”
The Haven gave me my life back. I left there not just sober, but healed and full of hope.
“Native sisterhood helped me to get connected to my creator and spirit.”
“I’m just a normal person living my life, not an addict struggling with sobriety.”
“You can’t be in recovery just because of your kids. You can’t do it for anybody else but yourself.
“I’m a tough cookie and I’m still stubborn, but somehow The Haven got through me.”
