The Haven’s Native Ways Therapist Nati Cano was honored with Rural Women’s Health Awards in the category of Innovative Approach to Rural Women’s Health. The award was presented at the 8th Annual Rural Women’s Health Symposium that was held on August 17-18 in Prescott.
Nati Cano, BHP, LISAC, ADS has been working in the substance use treatment field since 1989. She has been at The Haven since 2007 and played an instrumental role in developing our Native Ways Program. Nati has a vast knowledge of the Indigenous cultures and teachings, and she helps clients to connect with the spiritual and natural traditions of Indigenous people.
Prior to joining The Haven, Nati worked on the border of Arizona and Northern Mexico for Southeastern Arizona Behavioral Health Services in Douglas and Bisbee and with Gateway Foundation Services working in a state prison setting with female inmates. In addition, she worked 10 years in a private practice with her late husband supporting under-served Spanish-speaking populations. Nati has also served on the Board of Wings for Women whose mission is to empower women to break the cycle of hopelessness and lead healthy and productive lives. Furthermore, she is a member of the Red Road to Wellbriety Celebration Committee promoting and celebrating wellness and sobriety in Indian Country.
Nati is a strong advocate for social justice and has built a long career working with underserved populations. She has dedicated herself to serving her community and collaborating with other agencies in promoting culturally appropriate, gender-specific, and age-specific behavioral health programs. She is an inspiration to our clients and all the people she works with.
